Summer Youth Education with the Green Teens
Common Ground Farm has been participating in the Green Teens program through Cornell Cooperative Extension since 2005. This program places Beacon high school students in our field for a six-week program. They work alongside our farmers, learning about growing food organically, taking food to market, and about our CGF organization. In addition to field work, the Green Teens also helped to staff the table at the Beacon Farmers Market, where they learned about pricing, visual presentation, names of a large variety of vegetables, and how to answer questions posed by market patrons.
The Green Teens Community Gardening Program works year round with Beacon and Poughkeepsie youth to learn about food, farming, entrepreneurship, and health through hands-on experiences.
