Our Farm

Our Organization

Common Ground Farm is a farm project located on 9 acres leased from Stony Kill Environmental Center, in the Town of Fishkill, NY, dedicated to educating people of all ages about agriculture that is ecologically sound and economically viable. We are a not-for-profit corporation registered with the State of New York. Our farmer is a professional grower working in collaboration with the membership and shareholders.

Our Programs and Activities

Educational Tours and Events

Common Ground sponsors a diverse educational workshop series each season, with activities for both adults and children. The farm workshops have included classes on farming, herbs, cooking, pickling and canning, gardening and natural crafts for children, and alternative energy.

Educational tours and farm visits provide an opportunity for different groups and community members to come to the farm to learn about food, farming, and CSA.

CGF participates in the Green Teens Community Gardening project in partnership with Cornell Cooperative Extension for summer youth education.

CGF hosts open house events for the public annually, as well as winter and fall member meetings, community social events and Saturday workdays for volunteers to help out on the farm.

Community Outreach
- Common Ground provides assistance for low income members of the community to participate in the CSA through our Family Wellness program.
- CGF has partners with the Beacon Community Center and other local organizations on programs such as the childhood obesity program "We Can!", which promotes active lifestyles and healthy diets to prevent obesity in youth.
- Common Ground donates fresh surplus produce each week to a local food pantry in Beacon, NY.
- The farm participates in the local Beacon Farmer's Market, held each Sunday from 10am-2pm from June through October, to help improve access to fresh, healthy food. Farmer's Market Nutrition Program coupons are accepted at the market.

Community Supported Agriculture
- CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) is a simple partnership between a farm and a community of supporters providing a direct link between farm and table. CSA shareholders make a commitment to support the farm throughout the season. Shareholders assume the costs and risks of growing food and also share the rewards and the bounty of the harvest. Common Ground Farm is part of the CSA movement, supporting farmers and helping protect open land while providing members with a source of good healthy food.
