The Newburgh Farmers’ Market has been stewarded by Common Ground Farm since 2017, first at Downing Park and since 2019, on the Safe Harbors Green. Situated in the heart of Newburgh, the market plays a critical role in food access for its surrounding neighborhoods while also providing a welcoming, inclusive community space for gathering in one of the Hudson Valley’s most beautiful cities.
By running a well-managed market, local farms and businesses are able to connect directly with Newburgh’s consumers and cater to their unique and diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
The Newburgh Farmers’ Market and its vendors accept SNAP/EBT, WIC/FMNP, Double Up Food Bucks, and Fresh Connect Checks, as well as our own Greens4Greens benefit matching program. Accepting food benefits at the market makes fresh produce and high quality local food available to many more people. And all of that money goes directly to our farmers and food producers.
In 2019 we also piloted an after-market donation program, and since the start of the program, we have donated 4,500 pounds of fresh produce to local soup kitchens. Partnering with Our Core, we ensure that all of the leftover produce is made into healthy meals for people who need it.
Common Ground Farm partners with the Ogden Foundation, Our Core, Safe Harbors of the Hudson, and other urban development and agricultural non profits in Newburgh and Orange County to make the Newburgh Farmers’ Market possible.
