Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Program at Common Ground
The CIT program at Common Ground is for teenagers (13-15) who want to gain real-world skills for future internships and jobs. CITs will develop their abilities through hands-on experience as they work alongside counselors to guide activities and assist campers. They’ll cultivate teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills while boosting their confidence and having fun at the farm!
Responsibilities:
Assist with Activities: Help instructors and counselors run camp activities, including arts and crafts, games, farm work, and other camp programs.
Support Camper Groups: Work with campers, offering guidance, encouragement, and help with tasks.
Camp Operations: Help setup and cleanup activities. Support the overall camp environment, ensuring safety and enjoyment for all campers.
Skill Development:
Leadership: Learn to help manage groups of campers and make thoughtful decisions.
Communication: Develop verbal and non-verbal communication skills by interacting with campers, counselors, and staff.
Time Management & Organization: Learn to manage activities, keep schedules, and organize materials.
Conflict Management: Help develop strategies for addressing camper challenges, and helping everyone have a positive experience!
Teamwork: Work closely with camp staff and other CITs to help camp activities run smoothly.
Eligibility:
Must be 13-15 years old.
Interested in working with kids.
Ability to cooperate as part of a team.
Previous camp experience as a camper at Common Ground or elsewhere is helpful, but not required.
Time Commitment and Scheduling:
CITs are required to commit to a two-week block (two consecutive weeks), with the option to sign up for multiple blocks, if available.
Flexibility with schedules is encouraged to help meet the needs of the camp program. The number of CITs per week is capped to ensure a positive experience for all participants.
If demand exceeds available spaces, a waitlist may be implemented.
How to Apply:
Complete the application form, providing basic information about yourself, including your name, age, contact info.
Training:
Before beginning their time at camp, CITs will complete an online training session that covers essential camp policies, safety procedures, and best practices for working with children.
CITs will also participate in an in-person orientation session before camp begins. This hands-on training will focus on camp-specific routines, camper engagement techniques, and practical demonstrations of how to assist with activities and manage camper groups.
